House System

When pupils join Flora Gardens they are placed into one of four Houses – Diamond, Emerald, Ruby or Sapphire.

The names of the Houses represent precious gemstones and pupils will remain in the same House throughout their school life at Flora Gardens. Placing pupils in Houses enables inter-school competition at all levels, as well as creating a sense of belonging.

Each House is led by a member of staff (Head of House), assisted by House Captains from Year 5 and 6 as well as a Vice Captain. Pupils from Year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to apply for a Captain role at the start of the academic and are appointed by the Heads of House. There are also Captains for Sport and Music and you can see an overview of the roles below. Pupils are awarded House points for the displaying the following school values:

Value 1:  Choose Your Attitude –  Goal:  To have a school that is collaborative.

Value 2:  Respect –  Goal:  To create a school where we all feel valued and loved.

Value 3:  Adventure – Goal:  To choose to be curious, to take risks and to create our own paths.

Value 4:  Trust – Goal:  To have a school where openness and honesty are at the heart of all we do.

Value 5: Fulfilment – Goal: To take pride in each other’s successes and, with a sense of fun, seek worthwhile and absorbing challenges.

Value 6: Personal Well-being: To endeavour to healthyhappy and harmonious.

Each term the pupils with the highest number of House points in each House are awarded a certificate at a House assembly and at the end of the academic year there is a prize for the boy and girl with the highest number of points.

The current holders of the House shield are Ruby House. The shield is engraved each year and is kept in the School Office.

Houses organise charity days and have previously supported Sport Relief, NSPCC, British Heart Foundation and our school’s PTA (FGPTA), which is a registered charity.

Parents are invited to attend House assemblies which are normally on the last Monday/Tuesday of the month.
